Most people give credit to Albert Einstein for making the

rather casual and technically unsupported comment that we

use only approximately 10% of our brain, implying that the

other 90% is the future of mankind. The use of this other

90% has been sought after by various means and ways by

many for eons. Gaining genius power and even

para-psychological abilities, to say nothing of otherwise

enhancing the quality of cognition and experience, is both

the work of science fiction and the pursuit of many in

everyday life. To that end, researchers have begun to ferret

out some of the detail and further the potential.

At the forefront of a lot of this work is a collection of

conservative researchers, biologists, neuroscientists,

philosophers and theologiansall participating, albeit often

tacitly, in a new frontier known as NeuroTheology. Each,

often with their own agenda, have identified important

contributions to understanding both how life suddenly

appeared on this planet and some of the secrets hidden in

the human DNA.

Much of the work is controversial, but no one disagrees with

the central point of this article. That is, over 90% of the

human DNA is dormant and silent and that these silent

engines (Introns or silent genes) have yet to be expressed.

Moreover, of the 3% of genes required to build a human

being, 20% of that is used to create the brain, and another

30% of that DNA is expressed in the process of running and

maintaining the brain (Joseph 2002) Author R. Joseph,

writing in NeuroTheology, comes to this possible inference:

\”. 50% of the 3% of DNA, which is coded, serves the human

brain. Hence, since 97% of the 30,000 to 40,000 or more

genes (and their 3 billion or more base pairs) that make up

the human genome are repressed, up to 50% of that and

thus perhaps as many as 25,000 repressed genes and

over a billion base pairs of nucleotides may be available for

future cerebral metamorphosis and expansion of the brain.\”

(Joseph 2002).

That is food for thought! Since the evidence clearly shows

that the differing uses of the brain lead to structural and

functional differences in the ever developing (evolving) brain,

is it possible that one may just find that persistent mind

training leads one little step at a time to a virtual Quantum

leapa sudden flash of new mind so different and

advanced that a search for words comes up without

reference?

The pressure to \”be a success\” is possibly greater these days than in any time previously in human society.

And its not just success in one particular field or area of our lives. Theres an expectation for us to achieve in all things - to be a wonderful parent, a supportive friend, a good son or daughter, a groundbreaking artist AND a community minded member of our society to name just a few.

This expectation and pressure appears to come from a wide range of sources our peers, parents, media and society at large.

But ultimately, there is only one person who can define what \”success\” is for any of us. That person is ourselves.

A Vision for your Creative Life

Lets focus for now just on your creative life.

Think about the different ways in which you want to be creative, the different projects and areas, the different mediums you want to be creating with.

Begin with the creative discipline that youre most close to you, the one you keep returning to, whether it be writing, fashion design, painting, scrapbooking, photography, film-making or anything else.

Imagine you could have all the success you wanted in that major area of your creativity tomorrow. What would that mean to you, what would it look like, what would it feel like, what would it sound like?

Take some time to colour in the details as vividly as possible. Write out exactly what youll be doing, how often, where youll be, what will be happening around you, who youll be mixing with. Make it as descriptive and full a vision as possible.

Rather than writing this out just with words, you could create this vision in the form of a picture or collage. Cut out images from magazines that you connect with as part of your vision of creative success and arrange them together on a large sheet of paper with a picture of yourself at the centre.

Bear in mind too that this vision may be describing an ongoing state, rather than a fixed point.

For example rather than writing - \”I have written a best selling novel\”, for you a vision of success for your writing may be something like - \”I continue to experiment with my writing and publish 3 articles a month in wide range of different publications\” or \”I write the most beautiful and honest prose Im capable of at any one time\”.

Who REALLY owns the vision?

Once you have this strong vision of your creative life as a success, ask this crucial question -

Is this really YOUR vision?

Is this what YOU truly want? Do you really connect with it? Does it belong to you, is it what will make you happy?

Or has this vision of creative success come from someone or somewhere else?

Will achieving this will make YOU happy and proud, or just other people around you?

This is such an important question, and if you find, as many of us do, that youve been pursuing a certain vision or goal to please or satisfy someone else, its time to stop and redefine.

And before your inner critic chimes in with comments like \”Youre SO selfish, just pursuing what YOU want\”, remember that the happier and more meaningful our lives are, the more were able to contribute to the happiness of others, the more were naturally and easily able to spread that creativity and joy amongst those close to us.

So whats your personal vision for YOUR creative success? And, in the coming days, months and years, how can you stay connected to it and ensure it remains your vision and not someone elses?

Winter is knocking at the door and the cold and flu season is right behind him. I do my best to keep the latter two outside with old man winter. They are not the type of guest I want in my home. As a child I loved exploring the hundred acre woods around my grandparents estate. In the early summer the air was filled with the fragrance of wild roses. They grew everywhere and were found in every shade of light pink to a vibrant fuschia. The yellow centers reminded me of smiley faces. I would always pick a bouquet for my great grandmother. She spoke very little English and I did not quite understand her when she spoke Finnish. She, however, seemed pleased every time I brought the roses to her.

In the late fall I recall picking the red pods on the roses that were no longer blooming. I would chew on them. One time my great grandmother caught me in the act of chewing rose hips and promptly handed me a pail. I knew that whenever I was given a pail I was to pick something. She said in Finnish the same thing she always said when I would bring her roses. I figured that she wanted me to gather the rose hips and I was right.

She wanted the rose hips for tea. She kept a tea kettle of water simmering on the wood stove. The rose hips were put in the kettle and allowed to steep all night. Every morning we were treated to a cup of rose hip tea sweetened with a bit of honey. I would sip the tea with my elders and feel pretty special because I was the one who gathered the rose hips.

Thinking back on my childhood I had very few, if any, colds in the winter. Rose hips are a good source of vitamin C which is good for the immune system. I make the rose hip tea today much as it was made in those days. I make it in a crockpot. At night I fill the pot with water, add a few handfuls of rose hips, turn the pot on high and leave it alone until morning. A cup of rose hip tea and a bit of honey in the morning or anytime is a refreshing change of pace from the ordinary, and also good for you.

Jesus was a low-profile Person. He did not come to this earth to make a name for Himself and to be acclaimed by the fickle and feckless crowd. He entered towns and hearts quietly and effectively. What He brought spoke for itself; it didn\’t need rolling drums and town criers. Jesus didn\’t need to advertise Himself or His goods. Goodness is like that. It also bears the cross meekly for the sake of all others, not just those we choose to love.

Jesus speaks with a still voice: \”. . .The Lord was not in the wind. . .the earthquake. . .the fire. . .[but] after the fire came a gentle whisper\” (1 Kings 19:11,12). A gracious and unassuming spiritual life is finally the most effective. The Law was given from the mountain amidst thunder; the Gospel seeps quietly through throbbing hurting hearts. The Law threatens while the Gospel quietly beckons. The Law preaches death while the Gospel quietly promises life. The Law lays grievous duties on us while the Gospel quietly tells us to lay our burdens on Jesus while we go on with our duties. The Law wounds while the Gospel ever so quietly heals body, mind and spirit. The Law frightens while His tender Voice becomes our delight.

Those who affect power intimidate and coerce. Jesus cannot accomplish anything from the disadvantages of others, for that is what power does: take advantage of weakness. Our good God takes these very weaknesses and gently transposes them into His strength: \”My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness\” (2 Corinthians 12:9). The truly strong life is discreet, dignified, and decisive in Jesus. This person knows wherein his power lies, and therein is the strength for serene daily living.

So you\’ve decided that you want to start scrapbooking. You head to the craft store and eventually wander to the aisle(s) filled with scrapbook supplies. Obviously, the first thing you need to but is the book itself. Then you realize somethingyou\’ve never scrapbooked beforeso what kind of book should you buy? No need to break out in a cold sweat or feel lightheaded in the craft store. Here are a few things to keep in mind when you\’re shopping for your scrapbook.

You will find in your scrapbooking adventures that there are all shapes and sizes of scrapbooks. However, there are two general sizes that you will be able to find on a regular basis, the 12 x 12 inch books, and the 8 x 11 inch books. To make your experience a little easier, especially if you are a beginner, you will probably want to choose one of these sizes. The scrapbook paper that you will use to fill your book is commonly sold in these sizes. Because of the larger size, the 12 x 12 paper is more expensive. But on these pages, you can fit more photos and writing. It\’s your choice which book you want to use.

Many people like the 8 x 11 inch book because the inkjet printer in your home can print on that. Additionally, you can walk in any office supply or art store and find paper in this size without a problem. You may want to purchase a regular 3-ring binder to store your pages in while the book is in progress. With these thoughts in mind, it may be the best bet for beginners to start with an 8 x 11 book. After your initial experience, you can branch out a little more.

Other things to keep in mind when picking out your book. Try to avoid the spiral non-removable page scrapbook. With this format, you are unable to add additional pages or rearrange pages. When scrapbooking, you will find that you want to make changes often, so this book limits your ability to fix any mistakes.

How Do I Know If My Loved One Needs An Assisted Living Facility?

The topic of Assisted Living can be a very touchy one and should be handled with great care. Sometimes it can be hard to know when its time to seek an Assisted Living Facility.

Here are some signs that could mean your loved one may need an Assisted Living Facility:

1. They are suddenly less social and become very reclusive.

2. Tasks that were once easy have become difficult and labored.

3. They are having trouble taking their medication properly, miss doses or take too many pills.

4. They arent eating as well as they used to and seem to have suddenly lost weight.

5. The house isnt kept up the way it used to be- laundry isnt done and groceries havent been bought.

6. They are having trouble taking care of their own personal hygiene- showering regularly, washing their hair and brushing their teeth, ect.

Signs such as these could mean your loved one would benefit from an Assisted Living Facility. As difficult as it is, this means its time to broach the topic and do some research to find potential facilities. If you are too close to the individual whos health is in question, ask a friend or an extended family member to visit and see if they feel that they could benefit from the services an Assisted Living facility. It is often hard to look at a loved one and admit they can no longer care for their own basic needs, so dont be afraid to ask for help. Its a hard time for everyone involved.

So lets look at the upside of things. Your loved one needs a little help and may be moving into an Assisted Living Facility very soon. This means big changes, but not all of them are bad! Here are some of the great things they will love about their new home:

1. Assisted Living generally carries negative connotation but many people who are living in these facilities enjoy life even more then before! It gives them a chance to remain independent and get the help they need without feeling like a burden to their family and friends. In fact, some move in simply for the social aspect of it!

2. Assisted Living is fun! Most facilities have regularly scheduled events to keep everyone active, meeting new people and having a good time. Whether it be a game of cards with your neighbor, a few drinks before dinner with old friends, or movie night with new residents, there is always something going on to keep them upbeat and enjoying life.

3. Assisted Living offers much more privacy then nursing homes. Each resident will have their own personal room and space to call their own. They can decorate it however they please and have whatever furniture they want, which makes them feel more comfortable. Residents are also free to spend their day however they wish- that decision is theirs to make freely.

So as you can see, although moving a loved one into an Assisted Living Facility can be a tough decision, it isnt necessarily a bad one. Once they get settled in (and with a little time they will), they will feel very comfortable and at ease with their new home.

If someone believes they are better at something they have a better chance of displaying such traits or succeeding thru expectations right? Sure that makes sense. If someone is told when they are young that they have royal bloodlines in their ancestry could this help them succeed? Does that DNA really make any difference in their ability to compete?

It is funny these questions arent they? And along with that phrase; Believe to Achieve, they do make sense. What about a blind study? What happens when you have a child who is never told of royal lines and you watch to see if they are over achievers or perform at the average level or even below? That might be interesting to prove a point. Well guess what? I have royal lines and did not know it until I was nearly 40 years old.

Now then judging my genes only in hindsight of accomplishments, I believe that they are not so bad, in fact they have served me well or allowed me to use them to their full potential. Now one could ask; could you have accomplished all that with lesser genes?

Actually the funny thing is I believe I could have, I would have only had to work harder, which sometimes I did when I had somewhat inferior genes for a given task you see. For instance as a sprinter in Track, my muscle twitch was not as fast as a Black Athlete, thus hard to keep up, he was superior in that test of ability by far.

I had to condition myself more, and train much harder you see. But perhaps the abilities of the mind to believe I could propelled me to do just that? But that cannot happen without strength of character, drive and belief in self or for some a higher power. I guess my point is this, maybe there is something too the Royal Bloodlines that makes these folks rise to the top or over achieve as if a character flaw? Or maybe I am an anomaly? But either way, I still believe and will always believe that human will is the key. And no matter what genes you have you must make the best of them and never give up. That my friend is what makes a winner and nothing else. Consider this in 2006.
