Cooking As an Art

October 04, 2008 By: admin Category: Tips For Cooking

The concept of cooking started when our ancient ancestors discovered that putting food over fire make it taste much better. Since the times of the cave man, cooking had evolved tremendously.

Now there are so many types and genre of cooking styles. You can have European, Asian and so many different styles from some many different cultures. The expression is infinite.

Cooking is no longer about just filling the stomach. It is now an art form. An ever evolving art form. The Chef or creative cook is the artist. However, his work is much more than just creating visual treats. The food must taste good too. So, in a way, recipe making and creative cooking are more demanding than the visual arts, in the sense that they have to satisfy more than one type of senses. They have to appeal to both the visual as well as the taste senses. And that is not easy at all!

One of the difficulties associated with creating new and exciting dishes is in the area of accurate documentation. Very often, when the cook is fully and passionately immersed in the act of cooking and experimenting, he or she may not be able to remember the ingredients and steps accurately.

In addition to that, the first recipe to a dish often need further refinements. Such as issues like... should more sugar be added. Should the heat be lower and so on and so forth. There is this process of fine tuning. This fine tuning process is what makes an average dish awesome.

Therefore, a good cook should be more than just being a creative one. He or she must also be very good in documenting and refining the entire process of recipe making.
